Letter from the Gallery
 | Audrey Armstrong Skin Sisters JUNE 2009 | After sweeping and dusting the volcanic ash from our porches
and windowsills, we find ourselves suddenly flush with Spring
and Summer’s energy. The shorebirds and visitors and summer
residents are returning, bringing news and murmurs from places
near and far and pointing our gazes to times ahead.
Spring coincides with my first year anniversary of working at Bunnell.
I have delighted in meeting the incredible artists, volunteers and community members that make Bunnell thrive, and in experiencing
the amazing visual and performance art we have in our
small town. We experience art here in a much more intimate and
personal way than we could in a larger community. Bunnell is a
place that lets us share ideas not just among ourselves, but with
greater Alaska, the nation and even the world. Sometimes these
discussions are passionate and unsettling, sometimes they are
easy and light-hearted. That these four walls can contain those
conversations and connections that ripple out into the world is
as miraculous as the appearance of the birds in May. I am amazed
not just by the passion and drive of our local and visiting artists,
but also by the care and engagement and willingness of our audiences
and art supporters. It makes for wonderful art!
Join us this season for exhibitions featuring Alaskan artists, national
photographers, and two international artists from Korea, as
well as concerts, Arts Camp for Youth and the boundless energy
that art provides. Support the arts by attending shows, purchasing
the work of an artist you admire, or donating to the programs
you find valuable. Your energy ultimately sustains these connections
and makes me so grateful to be a part of this community.
See you this summer! Adele Person Groning
